Thin MacBook Prediction

Here’s my stab at the almost-for-certain Thin MacBook to be announced by Steve Jobs at Macworld in San Francisco tomorrow.

iPod based hard drives
Minimalistic in nature
“One Laptop Per Child” type of initiative
Low price for easy entry - sub $600?

The Red iPod series, Jobs’ zen type ideologies and the snubbing of OS X by “One Laptop […]

G5 Dual Cores Coming Up?

Think Secret today posted speculation that dual core G5 processors may see their way into PowerMacs in the next 30 days. That would be a nice shot in the arm - a much needed one at that. PowerMac sales have slowed a lot due to a lack of significant speed increases and the announcement to […]

Apple + Sony = PS2 iPod

This is just a long shot, but today I read at MacRumors that Apple supposedly has interest/commitments to a new multimedia chip. The assumption is that the iPod will indeed do video in the near future and probably play games of some sort. But taking it a step further, I think it makes sense to […]

Apple Buying TiVo?

I’m a day late on this one. TiVo’ stock shot up over 17% yesterday on speculation that Apple might purchase the company. Both Apple and TiVo declined comment which would seem to say it is highly possible. It does make sense - with Microsoft being so aggressive with its media PC initiative - and Apple […]

Apple Pulling iPod Inventory?

A very curious rumor reported by AppleInsider reports that Apple has supposedly requested(?) certain retailers return their inventory of iPod Photos.
This is really weird, the post mentions that somewhere overseas a Motorola “person” let slip that Apple would be introducing a bluetooth enabled iPod soon, but that would have nothing to do with pulling existing […]

G5 Powerbook Rumor

The hot rumor for today is that a small piece of code on a briefly posted page at apple.com referred to a Powerbook G5. Originally reported at The Register I definitley take it with a grain of salt. Of course there will be G5 Powerbooks in the next 12 months but when is anyones guess. […]

I posted yesterday about my prediction that Apple might be preparing a pro level image editing application to compete with Adobe Photoshop. Thought it might be nice to show some images from Apple’s web site of the new floating palettes in iPhoto. As I eluded to in the previous post, I think these look a […]

This is a prediction. After traversing the floor at MacWorld San Francisco a few weeks ago I was tired and needed a rest. I did something I rarely did in previous MacWorld visits - I decided to sit through an Apple Demo. The product was the new iLife 05 suite that includes iMovie, iDVD, iTunes and iPhoto. Mere consumer products I thought before the presentation began, but I figured, maybe I’ll pick up some ides for the wife and kids.

I admit that I was surprised. I am used to using heavy weight apps like Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Lightwave 3D, Freehand MX and Photoshop – however these apps were impressive. I had a lot of thoughts about each of the apps, which I will get to in later posts, but iPhoto stood out.

iPhoto now offers advanced image editing, whereas before it was more of a photo organizer, it now is a fairly impressive photo editor. Previous controls let you do basic brightness and contrast manipulation as well as crop, size and red eye removal. Now you can control sharpness, black and white levels and more. But even more impressive were the controls, they were nice pro looking black floating panels with transparency and cool sliders and visual readouts. I thought instantly “Wow, I wish Photoshop was that cool.” Boing, it occured to me. Could Apple be building a secret “Pro” image editing application and we are just seeing a few of its features in iPhoto?

Powerbook G5 and iBook G5

Digitimes quotes a source claiming that G5 Powerbooks are coming soon, in Q2 2005. This is a long shot - but somewhat possible if you look to June/July at WWDC 2005 (Worldwide Developers Conference). The iBook though we doubt anyone will see a G5 update before fall of 2005 and likely not till Q4 2005 […]
